the point of an adventure

so, today i was on my way to the train station when i signed up for a one week spanish language course and decided to stay in sevilla. ¡¿what?! yes, those are my feelings as well.

each day since i´ve been here, i´ve walked by this language school, but it was never opened. last night, as i was packing, i thought about maybe trying to see if it was open just one more time before leaving. i did...and it was. they are currently having a promotion on their standard spanish language courses and said i could start tomorrow. so after running around for an hour trying to find affordable housing, the man who owns/runs the hotel where i´m staying said he could move me to a single room in his place and lower the price of the room. it´s still not exactly affordable for a week of loding, but at least it is very close to the school and the people know me and like me. so, that´s what i´m doing. crazy!

this will probably mean that i won´t get to see much else of andalucia besides sevilla, but i do have this weekend to explore more. so if i decide that i´m a millionaire and can afford to pay for housing in sevilla AND in another city, i´ll go and explore at least one other area of the region. my class ends on monday, at which point i´ll probably head back to madrid since phil is arriving soon after that. molls - if i don´t make it to granada, then you and i can come back together to take pictures of and explore the alhambra. as yas and i frequently talked about on semester at sea, with every great experience you have, you´re missing out on another great experience, but better to have those choices in life than none. right yasi?

so let´s chalk up one more very un-briana-like thing. with any luck, my spanish skills will soar through the roof. although, i had to take a placement test today, and let me tell you. it´s been a decade since i´ve taken a spanish course, so this lovely little placement exam really kicked my butt. who the heck remembers the past perfect tenses and how to conjugate the irregular verbs?! it should definitely be an experience.

after my head-spinning morning trying to make a decision, i settled into my new room (smaller, but still nice) and took a siesta. i´ve had some major issues with getting up in the morning since i´ve been here (i think my old room is a time warp, not to mention that my body is adjusting to the spanish time schedule...more about that in a later blog), so i hope i don´t sleep through my first day of class!
